Management at Sydney Markets say they are shocked and saddened by the death of a forklift driver during an early morning shift.
The worker is believed to have been crushed to death after becoming trapped under a forklift at Flemington, in Sydney's inner west, shortly after 5am (AEST) on Tuesday.
Ambulance paramedics tried to revive the man but he died at the scene, despite extra help from Fire and Rescue personnel and the police.
Sydney Markets Limited head of operations Shane Chester said the death was a tragic accident.
"The management and staff of Sydney Markets Limited are shocked and saddened by this terrible accident," he said in a statement.
"Our condolences go to the man's family, friends and work colleagues."
WorkCover is investigating the industrial accident while police are also preparing a coronial report.
Initial investigations have found the worker was driving when the forklift rolled on top of him, crushing him to death, WorkCover said in a statement.
"WorkCover inspectors are on scene and are conducting inquiries. WorkCover will prepare a report for the coroner," it said.

My neighbour owns a fruit and veg delivery business. He reckons the markets are mad, forklifts and blokes driving cars and trucks without a whole lot of care. Pretty surprising that it rolled onto him, its all pretty flat down there, wouldn't have thought it would have rolled too fast anywhere.
