A woman has been assaulted by a 19-year-old who tried to steal hair extensions from a salon in Sydney's west, police allege.
Three women went into the salon on Auburn Road, Auburn, about 6pm (AEST) on Thursday before two of them grabbed several packets of hair extensions and ran away, police said.
The third, aged 19, also allegedly tried to steal some extensions, but was confronted by the female owner, who locked the shop's door.
The 19-year-old woman then allegedly forced the owner's face down onto the counter bench.
When the owner grabbed a knife to defend herself she accidentally cut the teen's right hand, police said.
Shortly after, police came to the shop and arrested the 19-year-old, who was taken to hospital for treatment then charged with common assault and stealing.
She was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on July 24.
Police are continuing to search for the other women, who are described as Africans with dark complexion, and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
