Two Swiss council workers had an unexpectedly lucky day while cutting the grass, stumbling across $123,000 worth of gold bars behind some bushes.
The men from Klingnau, near the border of Germany, said they first thought the mysterious package was drugs when they spotted it on June 28, The Local reports.
"I saw a package wrapped in white tissue paper with lots of adhesive tape around it — it looked like a packet of drugs," said Jean-Marc Wenger.
Police said tests confirmed the bars were gold, but with no markings on them or reported thefts, they do not know why the loot was left behind the bushes.
Under Swiss law the council workers will be entitled to claim the 2.5 kilograms of gold bars for themselves if it goes unclaimed for five years.
