US police have released footage of a car flying through the air and colliding into a pole after running a red light, in an effort to deter motorists from driving dangerously.
The video, shot at a busy intersection in New Jersey on June 29 last year, graphically illustrates the dangers of trying to beat the lights, CNN reports.
The traffic camera video shows a black car racing through a red light and clipping the front corner of an oncoming vehicle, sending the vehicle into a spin.
The car then mounts an embankment throwing it into the air before it collides heavily with a traffic pole.
No one was hurt in the crash but the driver was later arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Roselle Park Police Chief Paul Morrison said he believed having a red light camera at the intersection had made the road safer.
"Motorists who travel in this area now are more aware that 'what if I go through a red light or even attempt to I may receive a summons'," he said.
