Police are investigating after a threatening SMS was sent to people across Australia this morning, leading to a spike in 000 calls. The message reportedly reads: "Sum1 paid me to kill you. get spared, 48hrs to pay $5000. If you inform the police or anybody, death is promised...E-mail me now: killerking247@yahoo.com." Police in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland have issued statements saying the message is a scam. Queensland Police said it was important the public were not alarmed and aware that the message had been distributed en masse. "Do not forward the message on and do not respond in any way to the message," a spokesperson said. "If any member of the public has transferred any money it is vital they contact police and their bank immediately." NSW Police said the message had generated a major increase in calls to 000. "The origin of the message is under investigation, however, police do not believe it poses a genuine threat." Attachments:
