A cat-loving English woman tried to kill her sick husband after he failed to comfort her when her beloved pet died, a court has heard.
Margaret Sandercock,65, tried to smother her husband with a pillow last July because he didn't hug her when her 16-year-old cat Fluffy had to be put down.
Her husband Graham, 66, suffers from Parkinson's disease and could not properly express his emotions.
Mr Sandercock managed to fend off his enraged wife, who was found drunk in a churchyard near their Devon home the following day.
The judge at Exeter Crown Court did not sentence Ms Sandercock to jail time, saying she had cared for her husband for 28 years without a break.
"She regrettably became dependent on alcohol to counter that very stressful and extremely debilitating role she found herself in and she was very isolated, unappreciated and lonely," Justice Butterfield said.
Sandercock was given two years of community service and has been banned from any contact with her estranged husband.
